About Jane Maria Harding da Rosa

When I first moved to Portugal in 1992, I wasn’t a teacher,  I was a dancer. But I quickly realised that mime, body language, and tone were just as important as words when trying to make myself understood in a new country.

Like many language learners, I stumbled along the way (including confidently greeting people with a phrase that actually meant “Hey man, you’re so annoying!”). That experience taught me two powerful lessons that continue to shape my work today:

  • Language is best learned in chunks and phrases that can be remembered and reused.

  • Communication goes far beyond words: it’s about tone, stress, energy, and connection.

Because learning languages didn’t come easily to me, I know first-hand the challenges learners face,  and the support teachers need to guide them. That’s what led me to a career in English language teaching, training, and materials writing.

With over 30 years of experience, I’ve worked with teachers, schools, and organisations around the world to make language learning more accessible, engaging, and effective. My work includes:

  • Teacher Training & Development – From CELTA, DELTA and iPGCE tutoring, to tailored CPD programmes for schools.

  • Classroom Experience – Teaching English to learners of all ages and levels, both in mono-lingual and multi-lingual contexts.

  • Curriculum & Course Design – Creating training courses on EAL, CLIL, and teaching young learners and teenagers.

  • Professional Credentials – PGCE with QTS, an MA in Teaching English to Young Learners, and over 1000 hours of lesson observation and feedback.

What drives me is a simple belief: great teaching transforms language learning. And when teachers feel confident and supported, their learners thrive.

"You know what they say: teachers are the worst pupils. I'm not sure that's true; I would say that CPD providers are even worse. But despite being both a teacher and a CPD provider, Jane's input had me hooked. Practical, well grounded, relevant, up to date and delivered with passion - these sessions changed the way I teach forever. "
“Her dedication, along with the quality and depth of her teaching is unsurpassed… I can think of no better preparation for a career in TEFL than classes with Jane.”
